GDC 2009

Earlier this morning, Iwata gave his Keynote address at the Game Developer's Conference, announcing a whole ton of news that brightened up everyone's day. The news is as follows:

Wii Storage Solution!

Iwata announced and at the same time Nintendo delivered Wii firmware version 4.0. This new firmware version allows you to download an load off your SD card, and has also included support for SD cards up to 32GB in size. Save data for the games will have to be stored on the Wii System Memory, however. The SD Card icon on the Wii Menu will take you to the SD Card menu that has up to 20 pages for channels. The update is currently available if you go into your Wii System Settings and perform an update.

New Zelda!

Shiggy said it was happening and now it's here. It isn't exactly what we'd have in mind (I'm sure the console Zelda will be unveiled later) but The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. This new Zelda for the DS will do away with Link on a boat, and instead gives you Link on a Train. I can already imagine the parodies...

Arcade Games On Virtual Console!

Nuff said.

Nintendo Plans DSi Enhanced Games!

These enhanced DSi games will use DSi features, such as taking a photograph and using it as a texture in Animal Crossing: Wild World. These games are still in development.

More Final Fantasy!

Nintendo will be releasing the original Final Fantasy games on Virtual Console, along with a retro sequel to FFIV.
